Making the most of it
I emailed this lovely young model a month or so ago now and we have been brainstorming ever since, we were originally going to do an on location shoot in and around Northampton, using the 80′s theme. With the weather getting worse and dark night closing in, we decided to go to a local studio instead, and leave the other location stuff until New Year/Spring.
It was a fantastic shoot, Hannah is such a laugh too, it went so well, and I love how some of the shots came out, she seems more than happy with the results too.
3 shoots to the wind…
Book? Smart!
Blurb is a website that allows you to create shop quality books, and then send them the data, and they will print the book(s) for you, and it’s cheaper than you might think! For a 40 page, hard cover book, it cost me just £16.00+pp from USA. I sent mine off two weeks ago, and it arrived on my doorstep yesterday.
If you are interested then goto Blurb.com and download the free software design package ‘BookSmart’ You are helped along all the steps from inserting text, page layouts, fonts etc, it really is SOOOO easy.
I actually just created 40 or so .jpg files (including the front and back covers) and had every page a full bleed ‘photo’
The ‘should’ be an image here of me holding my book, but I took it work to show a few people, and my boss has borrowed it, to show more people. Tut Tut
Long ago London

I went to London a few weeks back, and keep putting off this blog entry, sorry all.
A group of about 7 of us met beside the London Eye, for what would be an all night London shoot (my first) after grabbing a bite to eat, and getting to know each other we decided to pick our tickets up for our pre-booked ‘flight’ on the Eye, took a few photos, but with the glass/reflections, it wasn’t easy, then a long walk/shoot along the Thames, our group progressively increasing, and asked a few dozen times by the now drunken public, what we were upto, Whale Watching lol.
Across the Millennium bridge, upto St Pauls Cathedral and then over the The Gherkin, almost non stop, it was knackering to say the least!
The sun started to rise as we crossed Tower Bridge, and managed to nab a few photos of a passing cruise liner too. All in all, a fab, but tiring experience. My best photos, can be found here

I booked my first studio for a shoot on Saturday just gone, but the model I was going to book had to cancel… worried I would miss an opportunity (plus I was in the right mind set) I asked everyone at work if they wanted a free photoshoot (my first session at this studio was free for me anyway, with some tuition chucked in to)
Long story short, two friends turned up, and we had an amazing time, I even surprised myself with some of the results… I need to be a little more bossy tho, i know in my mind what I want, just a little too scared to tell people where to stand, how to pose etc.
Just finished sorting out 200 or so photos I took recently at a friend’s 21st Birthday Party Prom, was great fun getting everyone to pose, just need to get them put onto CD, printed, emailed etc.
Also I have been asked to do another wedding shoot on the 6th September for some friends in Coventry, can’t wait, but am very nervous.
Carnival Chancer
I took over 400 photos yesterday at the Northampton Carnival, I was at the start standing on a low trailer as the parade went past, then as it finished walked through the other end of town to see the start pass me again.
So this morning I sorted through them, and picked out the best 150, which I’m going to send to the local newspapers… see if I get any thanks, credits etc.
Fingers crossed
a model friend
Even though I have been taking lots of different sorts of photos over the years, I still haven’t taken many portrait photos. This is mostly done I think to my lack of confidence in asking people, even those I know very well, to pose for me, let alone model for me for a wide range of shots.I have joined a couple of websites to help improve this, mainly Net-Model and PureStorm, so hopefully, something will come up sooner or later. So far I have managed to contact some people in the area, networked so to speak, and I’ll add more information if anything turns up.
I have also taken a few shots of a friend of mine, and I have a couple more in the wings willing to pose, again, I shall post these as a when they are done.
